As for the foodstuff and toys, the selection of goods is adequate but the quality of available goods is often surpassed by other local stores.
They were well stocked and friendly but the staff could have helped more. I went in looking for a diet food for my picky dog and instead of having a conversation about what my dog might eat over what while still getting him to loose weight they pointed out the most bought weight loss food and then left. Still friendly about it, just not super helpful. This wasn't the only time I had issues with helpfulness, just the most recent. Last year I got a Robo hamster and, for those of you who don't know, they're one of few hamsters that are social. I went in looking for a friend for him and they couldn't tell me if the hamster I picked out was male or not. I ended up finding out that not only was it a she but she was pregnant! Be careful when purchasing pets from them and do your own research before going in.
A great location for all your pet needs. They have a nice fish selection both saltwater and freshwater. Although sometimes their tanks could use a bit of cleaning and care. You can find some good deals here on saltwater fish. Just make sure to check the health of the fish before purchasing.
I called about my hamster chewing out of its cage. The Petco employee said that there was a really sturdy cage for me and the hamster. He said he wanted to lock me in a cage and put me on display.

While the staff means well, there is a large opportunity for improvement in terms of training. The main concern here is that on multiple occasions I given advice from personnel that would have caused illness, injury, or death of a pet (cat/dog) if followed. While I understand the desire to feel useful, it is important to understand that "I don't know" can be an acceptable answer.
